Victor Brandao, Recreation Manager (617-533-8133 ext. 22)

Antawan Griffith, Recreation Coordinator (617-533-8133 ext. 22)

The Lena Park Gym has a long history of meeting community needs for basketball and other indoor sports, along with the outdoor space for recreation and basketball.

Currently, recreation includes Pee Wee Basketball and Art, a Saturday morning (fee based) program for 5-12 year olds who are interested in learning basketball skills, good sportsmanship, and early exposure to regular exercise, along with visual art classes and projects.  There are two, twelve-week sessions:  September to December and January to April.  Applications for September, 2017 are now available at the front desk or by contacting Victor ( This program begins at 9am and runs until noon.  Snacks are served weekly, and trophies are distributed on the last day of each session.

Hoops and Books, our summer six-week sports program for children 6-12 is now accepting applications for one or both three-week sessions that begin on June 26th.  The program runs from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm Monday through Friday and includes field trips on Thursdays.  The children focus mainly on basketball, but are introduced to soccer and volleyball, as well.  Language arts and math class to prevent summer learning loss are also scheduled twice weekly for each group.

This program is limited to 36 participants who are divided into one of four groupings by age. The goal is to provide more individualized attention to each child and his/her needs.  Breakfast, lunch, snack and water are provided each day.  Both Victor and Antawan will be running the program and both are available to speak with parents and/or guardians.

Open Gym time is expanding to give more playing time to local teens.  Currently, open gym hours are 7-8 pm on Wednesday, 6-8 pm on Thursday and Saturdays from 12 noon to 4 pm.

At the request of teen members of Lena Park, new leagues for teens 19 and under; as well as 15 and under are being developed for both summer and Fall of 2017.  Anyone interested in helping develop the teams and/or the league should contact Victor Brandao.

Under the leadership of John (Rico) Caphart, the Adult League meets on Sundays from 9 am to 6 pm from September through April.  The League will return to Lena Park on the second Sunday in September.  For more information about this league, please contact Antawan Griffith at Lena Park.
